Academic Community Service

A day after one lovely valentine’s flows, the FIT club organized an academic service whose purpose was to introduce the basic concept of programming using Scratch.According to Scratch, “Scratch is a high-level block-based visual programming language and website aimed at children as an educational tool for programming, with a target audience of ages 8 to 16. Users on the site, called Scratchers, can create projects on the website using a block-like interface.” Because of that, we took this opportunity to teach Scratch to students of grades seven to nine.

Students at this age are still at their curiosity peak, so it’s best to introduce them to the basic concept of programming, to help them gain knowledge that will help them dive further into the IT world. I’d like to specially mention the Institution of Asia-Pacific International University for giving us this opportunity for being able to teach middle to high schoolers about programming. This academic activity aimed to not only give benefits to the community but also to strengthen the critical and logical thinking skills, encouraging students to be able to conduct better decision making for their future purposes.

The Faculty of Information Technology is grateful to the nine (9) brave students that kindly participated as trainers/photographers in the event: Brandon Bendah, Reuben Fretten, Musonda Kankomba, Sila Waleesila, Kritmetee Wongngern, Enowell Danieyl, Titus Anthoney, and Pimlapat Piromruk.
