The Faculty of Information Technology invited an Experienced Data Consultant, Mr. Peter John Fretten, to a seminar titled “Practical Application of IT Skills in the Real World.” The seminar aimed to educate our students to be informed about their identity value to the real world. The Faculty of Information Technology, alongside The Faculty of Business Administration, was invited as attendees and are ready to face the world of digital information. During the Seminar, Mr. Fretten presented to us using simple PowerPoint slides that consisted of valuable information about how important our identity is to the internet.

The attendees were introduced to the concept of Identity Theft, “the crime of obtaining the personal or financial information of another person to use their identity to commit fraud, such as making unauthorized transactions or purchases.” Based on Mr. Peter’s experience, there was one time when an acquaintance of his sought out his passport for him to buy a ticket flying to the States. He took a picture of his passport and send it to the acquaintance, however, without knowing it, his identity was used to launch another business that he does not know of. Good thing that he wasn’t forced to pay anything, at least for now. Most of the time Identity Theft doesn’t end well, so take this as a lesson from an experienced person.
